How to Estimate Your Vinyl Siding Cost

Vinyl siding is known for being affordable, but it can still represent a significant financial investment. If you are re-siding your home, you may want to get a rough estimate of the vinyl siding cost before you find a siding contractor. Making the calculations is fairly simple.

Search for prices in your area now.

Your zip code:
  1. For each exterior section of your home, multiply the width by the height. Exclude gables and other triangle-shaped areas.
  2. To calculate the square footage of gables, multiple the width by the height and divide by 2.
  3. Add your figures together for the total square footage.
  4. Now subtract your windows and doors. For each window and door, multiply the width by the height, and add those figures together. Deduct that number from your total square footage.
  5. Multiply the total square footage by the price per square foot. If you know the cost per square (10' by 10'), then divide the total square footage by 100, and multiply that number by the cost per square.

Your overall vinyl siding cost will be significantly higher when you add starter and finish strips, inside and outside corners, J-channels, vents, shutters, soffit pieces, fascia trim, and other pieces. Depending on your home's square footage, add $500 to $1,000 for these additional items.

If you intend to find a siding contractor, add approximately 30 to 50 percent of the raw material cost for installation. This total figure should give you a rough idea of what you can expect to pay for your new siding.
