A DIY exterior siding project is a great way to spend a few summer weekends. You get lots of fresh air and exercise; your home gets a makeover and, hopefully, a better appraisal down the road. But, before you start installing vinyl siding, you must make an important decision that might require input from your entire family; siding color.
Vinyl Siding Colors and Styles
Vinyl siding is one of the most popular choices for an exterior siding product, so you have many vinyl siding colors from which to choose. Some manufacturers offer more than 30 colors in select styles. When choosing a color, pick a style, first. Match your siding to the style of your home or the style you hope to create for your home. Some of the more popular horizontal siding styles are:
- Beaded
- Clapboard
- Dutchlap
- Vinyl Shake
The style can narrow down your color selection, but you may need to do more homework. If so, ask your contractor or distributor for a list of homes with the siding style you're considering, and take a road trip to look at the houses. If one color looks right for your home, your DIY project is ready to go, and you can start installing vinyl siding.
If you're still considering several possibilities, borrow some siding panels from a distributor, and compare them against your home. Your new vinyl siding can last a long time, so you may want to install several pieces of the color finalists before you decide.
